a·mal·gam n. - A combination of diverse elements; a mixture
So....what is amalgam music?
amalgam music is a reference to the idea that everything in a studio environment is a mixture of sorts. Whether in the literal sense of summing audio or in the sense of bringing many different tools and talents together on one space, a studio is a place where many different things have to interface with each other. That's where we come in. We use our experience setting up studios large and small to make your studio more efficient, easier to work in, and better sounding. The result is a space that works with you, not against you; a space where you don't have to fight your equipment to make good music.
OK, but who are we?
Peter Bregman and Paul Flynn have been working in the music industry in Minneapolis since 2006. They have each worked at major studios in the cities, and helped to re-wire, build, and design a number of creative spaces and studios in the area. In 2007 they built their own recording studio, Owl Recording.
Peter Bregman moved to Minneapolis from the east coast. He apprenticed under Eddie Ciletti and learned how to build and repair recording gear. He also worked for Great River Electronics building and testing high end recording equipment. He is now a freelance tech and recording engineer in addition to co-owning a guitar amp and pedal company - Resonant Electronic.
Paul Flynn grew up in southern Minnesota. He cut his teeth by working with Tom Herbers at the now-defunct Third Ear Recording, where he learned his way around tape machines and vintage equipment. He now teaches audio engineering at the Institute of Production and Recording and keeps all of their studios fully functioning and wired correctly. Paul is also a freelance recording engineer and a talented musician.
